Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Treatment

We will first provide a detailed assessment for each person before starting a personaliosed MLD massage.

We treat every one of our clients with genuine care as we understand the difficulty of going through the problem. Nothing makes us happier than seeing our clients feel relieved and joyful again after recovery!

What is MLD?

Imagine your body is like a big city, there are tiny cleaning trucks and workers that go around picking up trash and keeping everything tidy. These workers are like the lymphatic system in your body, and they help get rid of waste and extra fluids.

MLD is a gentle massage technique to help those cleaning workers do their job better. Instead of a strong and fast paced massage, it’s more like a light and rhythmic touch that guides the workers along the pathway.

Therapist uses light and rhythmic strokes and gentle pressure to promote movement of lymphatic fluid out of swollen limb.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is often used to address :

Lymphedema

Chronic venous insufficiency

Pregnancy and edema

Psychological stress

Common FAQs About Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Massage vs MLD?
Massage is fast-paced and strong, whereas mld consists of slow and rhythmic strokes
Is MLD painful?
MLD is typically a gentle and painless technique. The therapist will be using light pressure and rhythmic movements to avoid causing discomfort
Other treatment options for lymphedema besides MLD in physiotherapy?
– Therapeutic exercises (eg. abdominal breathing, circulatory exercises)
– Heat therapy
Any advice on what should I do before and after treatment?
– Drinking water before and after the session is recommended. Keep ourselves hydrated. As MLD will improve lymph flow in our body, more water will also be displaced from our body.
– MLD is unable to work well on a dehydrated body due to vasoconstriction of blood vessel, which will reduce the effect of MLD
Can we use oil/lotion for treatment?
There is no need for oil/lotion usage, as MLD treatment only involves light pressure and the skin will not be slid during the treatment
How does MLD work?
Involves light, rhythmic strokes and movements that encourage the natural drainage of lymphatic fluid, reducing swelling and promoting overall well-being.
What conditions can be treated with MLD?
Often used to address conditions such as lymphedema, post-surgery swelling, and certain inflammatory disorders. It may also be used for relaxation and immune system support.
Contraindications for MLD?
Certain medical conditions eg. acute cellulitis, acute infection, congestive heart failure are some conditions that need to avoid MLD. It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before undergoing MLD, especially if you have health concerns.
How many sessions are usually recommended for MLD?
The number of sessions depends on the specific condition being treated and the individual’s response to therapy. A therapist will often recommend a series of sessions for optimal results.
How long does a MLD session last?
The duration of the session varies, but typically lasts between 60-90 minutes. Our therapist will customized the session depending on the patient’s needs
